I think one of the confusions is that there isn't a clear distinction between the settings used to display the correct color space and gamma within Resolve vs the color space encoded into the output. I imagine there's alot of us grading on a mac without an external grading monitor that would find it useful. I just wish BMD would write something up for mac users to deliver a rec.709 file so it was clear on what to do. I did find that rec.709a tag for gamma now so I'll try that. then in the comments people were saying they tried those settings and results weren't good. If they have I just can't find it with all of the other information out there clogging up the search results.ĭoes anybody have suggestions that actually work for the majority of people viewing on YT? I understand browser and monitors will play a role but is there overall guidance on DR settings to get more accurate color exports in rec.709 from a Mac?ĭells DIY wrote:Thanks, I did watch that last night which actually added to my confusion because they went back and forth and didn't actually come to a conclusion. I find it so hard to believe that BMD hasn't come out with guidelines for users that wish to simply export rec.709 using a Mac for YouTube. Most of these articles and videos are so complex with deep dives into color space, gamma tags, nits, monitor calibrations, external monitors, blackmagic adaptrs for monitors etc etc. I've watched a dozen youtube videos, some with Daria Fissoun, on how to setup DR while using an iMac for grading and there are still no real clear guidelines on best setups. I never really understood why my video's looked so good in the DR viewer but when uploaded to YouTube or Instagram, the colors and luminance were way off. I've been using DR for about two years now and have been just starting to color grade my footage so it's more than "good enough". I'll preface this post with I'm a beginner.
